An estimate based on a 40-week pregnancy. Only about 1 in 20 babies arrive on the exact date — most come within two weeks either side.

How the date is worked out

The calculator uses the standard obstetric methods your doctor uses in the clinic. Each one counts forward to a full-term pregnancy of about 280 days.

FROM YOUR PERIOD

Naegele’s rule

Pregnancy is dated from the first day of your last period. We add 280 days (40 weeks), then nudge it by a few days if your cycle is longer or shorter than 28 days.

FROM CONCEPTION OR IVF

Counting from day one

If you know your conception, ovulation or embryo-transfer date, we count 266 days from fertilisation — adjusting for whether a day-3 or day-5 embryo was transferred.

FROM A SCAN

Ultrasound dating

An early scan measures the baby directly. Given the gestational age on the day of the scan, we project forward to the full-term date — often the most accurate method.

What comes next

Weeks 6–8

First visit & dating scan

Confirming the pregnancy, an early ultrasound, blood tests and your first conversation about care.

Weeks 11–13

NT scan & first-trimester screening

Nuchal translucency scan with combined screening for chromosomal conditions.

Weeks 18–22

Anomaly scan (TIFFA)

A detailed anatomy scan checking the baby’s growth and organ development.

Weeks 24–28

Glucose screening

Testing for gestational diabetes, plus routine blood work and blood-pressure checks.

Weeks 28–32

Growth scan & Rh care

A growth assessment, and an anti-D injection if your blood group is Rh negative.

Weeks 36–40

Weekly checkups begin

Position and growth checks, birth planning, and closer monitoring as you near your date.

Week 40

Your due date

Full term. If baby takes a little longer, we’ll discuss monitoring and next steps together.
